Essex Crust sides have grain defects (as shown in pictures) that may make them best for smaller projects.
Essex is a full grain leather tanned with Horween’s time-tested Shell Cordovan veg tanning liquors. Crust are hides that have reached the stage in their tanning process where they have become a stable leather product. From this point hides are usually conditioned, dyed and/or finished. Just like many of Horween’s leathers, it works great for just about any leather working project from bags to shoes to wallets.
These are second run hides which means some hides may have issues ranging from a color defect/variation to brands, holes, scarring, loose break, drawn grain, tannery swatch cuts, etc. Many times, we have also created our own color names for these hides, and these should not be referenced to identify any leathers not sold here at Maverick.
