Hide Type

Blackhawk is very similar to the Illini Latigo, but with a smoother, waxier feel. Horween’s Latigo leathers are produced in a heavy veg retan (chrome tanned first, veg tanned second). These saddlery latigos are hot stuffed, creating a solid hide that is characterized by a beautiful tight grain. While Horween will produce it in matte or gloss finishes, heavy or soft tempers, it can also be produced in a full aniline, semi aniline, or pigment finishes, as well as naked, hand glazed or waxed.

These are second run hides which means some hides may have issues ranging from a color defect/variation to brands, holes, scarring, loose break, drawn grain, tannery swatch cuts, etc. Many times, we have also created our own color names for these hides, and these should not be referenced to identify any leathers not sold here at Maverick.
